The implementation of a Europe-wide Financial Transaction Tax is long overdue. However, the idea has already come a long way among the EU’s decision-making institutions and the European Commission has presented a proposal for an FTT.
At this very moment, success depends on the will of the Finance Ministers of the Member States who debate the Financial Transaction Tax in the Council of the EU.
The Commission’s proposal will only be implemented if all Member States agree.
